In October 2026, Dr. Maria Mercedes T. Rodrigo was declared President-elect of the International Artificial Intelligence in Education Society (AIED Society). The AIED Society (https://iaied.org/) is an international community that brings together researchers from fields such as computer science, education, psychology, neuroscience, and data science to develop and study AI-based educational applications.
The Society hosts the yearly International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Education, a CORE A-ranked conference since 2008. The Society also produces the International Journal of AI in Education (IJAIED), a Q1 journal. Both the conference proceedings and the journal are indexed in Web of Science and Scopus.
Dr. Rodrigo has been participating in the AIED community since 2007. She was a elected into the Executive Committee in 2021 for a five-year term and was renewed in 2026. Her term as president is from 2027-2029. This is Dr. Rodrigo’s second international leadership position. She perved as president of the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education from January 2024 to December 2025.
